Simple Acts of Spreading Kindness

                  #RandomTextsofKindness

Note: This was written by Colby Hall, Trinity Energy Progression Instructor, the day after the U.S. Presidential elections, Nov ’16… and being posted in mid-December, with the political landscape just as chaotic… and during the end-of-year holiday season, providing stress for many this year; so of course, perfect!)

I had intentionally put off writing this blog until after the election, figuring that I would have lots to write about once the election was over.  But as I was in the shower on Election Day, inspiration struck (as it does so often when I’m in the shower), and I knew I had to write.

There’s something wonderful about a shower. I think it’s the perfect combination of the sound of the rushing water, the white noise from the exhaust fan, and the warmth that the water against your skin provides. Whatever it is, I find that in the shower I often go into a place of stillness and calm where my thoughts flow as easily as the water. So what was the thought today that led to this blog post? It was that I should text my mother and tell her I loved her. It was as simple as that. I thought about how that simple text would make her feel special and cared about, and how I hoped it would warm her up all the way down to her toes. It’s no small thing on my part either; I tend to find love difficult to express and therefore don’t express it nearly enough.

This idea blossomed into another – as my ideas tend to do when I’m in the shower – and I wondered what it would be like if even a small percentage of the population sent a random text to someone they cared about to let them know. It could be something as simple as “Hope you have a great day” or “Thinking of you.” It doesn’t even have to be words. I received a virtual bouquet of flowers from a friend of mine the other day who used a lot of different flower Emoji’s and sent the “bouquet” to me in a text.  Think of how special the recipients of these texts would feel, and then how that might change the way they approached everyone else they encountered in their day.  By one simple, small act, many lives could be changed.

I choose to perpetuate happiness as much as I can, to generate it within myself, and to do what I can for others to find it. I hope that you will join me in this endeavor. Although I am not a big Twitter user, I would love to see this go viral and for lots and lots of people to send a random text of caring to another as often as they feel inspired to do so.   We’ve all heard of random acts of kindness, so I thought I would call this #RandomTextsOfKindness. If even a few lives are brightened, it will be well worth the effort.

Love and Light

loveandlightThe fastest way to be the light
First love yourself with all your might
Then you will know which way to go
Where rewards come from – your heart aglow
White light, pure love – it’s essential
Sweet as it is, pure potential
Feel it now – and then release it
If just for a moment –  what a difference it makes
To love another as we do ourselves
What a precious gift, first to give and then receive
Love and light, yes that’s the key
That’s the way, no You and Me
But to be free, we come to be.

Acceptable Judgment

judgmentPonder that for a moment, maybe longer.

Judging comes in many levels: self-judgment, judging others, being judged, “constructive judging,” and good ‘ole, “not judging.”

We judge ourselves and others by age, gender,  job, homes,  cars, how they dress, speak, and what we feel is appropriate behavior.

For one hour, attempt to not judge at all. Sit in a chair, do not move. Can you do it? Even meditating you may become frustrated with a noise from a neighbor (why can’t they mow their grass earlier in the day?).  Or you may not accomplish meditating as deeply as you usually do, so you judge yourself on not getting to that space of deep meditation.  You think about all you need to get done, you should have had it done by now, or you are not organized or focused enough.

Try going for a walk:  their dog is left out too long, that neighbor should paint their ugly fence, or those people never wave back, they must be crabby…

Then there is the “I am not judging, but…”

We are human. We judge even when we try not to.

What is acceptable judgment?

Pay attention to your heart. Your divine love within you lets you know. Your heart will show you with energy in the moment you are judging.  You can ignore it or even justify it, but your heart always lets you know.  Just pay attention.

The understanding is that we are in constant judgment. We will change what we feel is acceptable judgment on our path to enlightenment; the more we become in a place of love the more we pay attention.

In the meantime, let’s all practice every moment of everyday to judge less.  Let’s honor ourselves and honor others.  We are human. We are here for this great human experience.  It is the story.  Have fun too.

What is your acceptable judgment today?

There’s Magic All Around… Do You See It?

Obstruction Pass, Orcas Island, WA

Obstruction Pass, Orcas Island, WA

How many times have you gone outside to see magic in your environment? The wonders and miracles of everyday life, that is. It’s really all around us all the time, yet so many people miss it. I can step outside my front door right now and find at least a dozen magical encounters at my fingertips. It could be a dragonfly flying around my head. It could be a grasshopper hopping around my feet. It could be a spirited child screaming playfully outside. Magic is fully in the eye of the beholder; we often miss it because of our expectations around what we believe it’s supposed to be. If you think magic has to be something extraordinary and grand, then so it must be. Most of the time, the magical encounters are weaved throughout the simplicity of everyday life. That’s the magic. 😉

What do you think of when you hear the word magic? Is it when a magician pulls out his magic wand and says, “Abracadabra” and proceeds with a magic trick? That is only one way. The dictionary defines it as: “any extraordinary or mystical influence, charm, or power.” It also says it is anything that is fascinating, captivating, charming, or enchanting. It’s often irresistible. It’s a mysterious phenomenon and it’s much more than words; it’s a feeling. Magical experiences happen every day and they can be very subtle. How often do we stop and recognize the beauty of what’s right in front of us? The birds chirping, the leaves blowing, the moon glimmering, the fireflies glowing? Are we too consumed with 3D day-to-day life to pay attention?

Are we lost in schedules, checklists, meetings, and appointments? The more we work and hyper focus on details, the more blindsided we become. The push, the pull, the pressures of life….do they take up all of our time? World events, politics, and family drama can consume us even more. It can seem like these are the only things that matter in the moment because they seem to affect us so much. We can become empty and exhausted. So, what’s the solution? Perhaps it’s looking at what truly matters and carving out time for it….the things that will help free us from stress and expectations. The things that matter are the things that rejuvenate one’s soul, expand one’s heart, and renew one’s energy. They are numerous and eternal! These are magical encounters that can free us from the mundane. It’s a kind of mystery and the beholder knows it when they see it/feel it— it’s the inner knowing of something Divine. It gives one peace and a sense of wonder. Magic doesn’t have an explanation, and if it did, it would no longer be magic. 😉

I recently went on a Trinity Energy Progression Facilitator retreat to Orcas Island. Orcas is part of the San Juan Islands off of the coast of Washington state, just south of the Canadian border. Soul family from all over gathered together to do energy work and to appreciate the island. Talk about magical experience….this place was amazing down to the core! We spent three solid days walking around and immersing ourselves in the incredible energy. Presence, stillness, tranquility, and gratitude filled the days. We hiked through mountains, wandered on the beach, paraded through trails, and climbed up rocks. All sorts of untainted nature surrounded us in any given moment—trees, rocks, waterfalls, sand, pebbles, labyrinth, flowers, sunshine, animals, insects, and fresh air. To me, this is the purest form of magic! We allowed ourselves to be immersed in the no-words-to-describe amazing experience and to “JUST BE.” Time melted away; we were free from all outside influences and distractions; totally out of our heads. This is where the heart is, in this “BEING” place! It’s magical because it’s not something we typically allow in our day-to-day lives. “ALLOWING” is key. For magic to captivate us, we must be willing participants. We became enraptured for hours.

Obstruction Pass, Orcas Island, WA

SO many treasured memories were created on this trip: meditating in front of the Cascade Falls, traipsing through Obstruction Pass State Park, strolling along Pebble Beach, and gazing at the sparkling water that seemed to come to life right before our eyes. We admired the brilliant sunbursts high above that kissed the water below. We were visited by many delightful animals along the way, too, which added an extra enjoyable element. Seals and sea otters swam through the bay as we meditated along Pebble Beach. They popped their heads up out of the water as if to say, “Here I am, come play with me!” They were so adorable and cute! I just wanted to reach out and hug them. At one point, we saw a whole family of sea otters swimming together and creating a bundle of joy. The sea otter message is one of pure playfulness and fun. What a wonderful message on our retreat! And of course, we all felt the playful energy around us. Seals bring the message that it’s time for to allow creativity and imagination to soar and to follow through on one’s dreams! We also saw some squirrels while hiking through Moran State Park to get to Cascade Falls. They were playing peek-a-boo behind the trees as if to say, “Catch me if you can!” The squirrel is another animal all about fun. The message is not to take life too seriously. Yes! Life can be and ought to be fun and full of life. And yet another animal that showed up for us on this trip was the beautiful bald eagle. Some of our group saw them face to face and some saw them during meditation. The Bald Eagle is an alluring creature and it has a very powerful spiritual message. It’s one of healing, creation, and illumination of spirit. The eagle inspires you to reach higher and stretch your limits. It gives us courage and a desire to become more. It’s a message of rebirthing.

Well, we certainly felt like we were being rebirthed on this retreat! Our group spent a lot of time together indoors as well, connecting, sharing our hearts, and doing energy work together. We laughed, we cried, we cheered. We felt a range of emotions and it was a magical time. We remembered our brilliance. We resolved negative energies, judgment, and things that no longer served us. We turned up our light, our brilliance, and accepted, embraced, and assimilated the dark energies with unconditional love and acceptance. We left our soul prints in the sand. We pledged that we would take the magic back home….hold the vibration of love, depth, unity, acceptance, and gratitude and take it back with us to keep forever. We would go home and “Just Glow.” That became our new tagline. 😉

So, all of these things are what I consider magic. And it’s so much more! They are the things that bring us joy, bliss, freedom, gratitude, and peace….and they can be found everywhere. They revitalize, restore, and rejuvenate. And the good news is that you don’t have to go all the way to Orcas Island, WA to experience it; it’s here in our own backyard, simple and profound. At any given moment, you can step away from the mundane to take notice of your wonderful world. Get out of your head and into your heart. Embrace it, accept it, allow it. Magic is where the heart is, and so is healing. We just have to have eyes to see it. It’s hidden in plain sight! ?

The Universe Has Our Back: We Are Constantly Being Held…

supportedroadThere have been major shifts that have been occurring that have pushed all of us on the path that we are supposed to be travelling. I know that for myself, I’ve been dragging my feet for some time. I had been standing still for so long that I didn’t know how to take a step forward.  I was terrified to stay in the space I was in, and at the same time terrified of where I was to go.

However, this past summer, all that changed. I experienced the life I so desire and I couldn’t stand still anymore. I know the steps that must be taken in order to live the way I dream… and they aren’t simple. Well, that’s not true. In a way, they are. They’re simple because what they will reveal is my Truth. I’ve been so afraid of accepting this and ashamed of what others would think that I have hidden it for way too long. I have lived a half-life, and I now know that I am worthy of so much more! I will no longer be what someone else wants me to be. I will no longer be something that would make me acceptable to others. I must be exactly who I was created to be… and that has come through so loudly that I can no longer ignore the signs.

This brings me to the title of this entry, for throughout the whole process, I’ve had to overcome enormous amounts of fear and self-doubts. When I thought that I couldn’t possibly dredge up anymore unworthiness, self-doubt, fear, anger, sadness, and loneliness, more would surface. When I felt like I was so alone that I wouldn’t make it through, the Universe was holding me. It was holding me in so many ways and I was oblivious. It hasn’t been until literally within the past few weeks that I’ve received such clarity! A few weeks ago was one of those times where I felt like I was dying, and what happened blew me away. Many of the amazing people that I’m lucky to have in my life stepped forward at exactly the moment I needed them. There is no way I could’ve even thought it out so perfectly. I was so humbled by it and it brought me to my knees. I then started to see how I have been held for so long and I had been blind to it the whole time. Even when circumstances are not what we like, we are being held because it is pushing us to our Truth. Now, I can see the love in every little thing. I see it when the perfect person reaches out to me at just the right moment. When I hear the perfect song plays on the radio. When I’m driving by and the sun is shining at just the right angle. I see it when I receive and listen to the perfect guidance – I’ve been getting better at that one! What a gift!  I see it when I know that I am at the perfect job at this moment, for it is providing exactly what I need. I feel it when the perfect bite of food nourishes me. I see it when a stranger gives me a smile. I see it when I sit with myself and am amazed at who I am finally revealing myself to be. The Universe has our back at every moment of every day… from the most minute ways to the ones that blow our minds. I have no words to express how grateful and humbled I am by this love. All I can say over and over again is, “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”
